Brief Description of Event:
National Oral Pathologists Day was celebrated from 26th to 28th February 2024 in BBD College of Dental Sciences, Lucknow under the aegis of “INDIAN ASSOCIATION OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL PATHOLOGISTS”. The event was organized by the Dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and was attended by the Dean, Dental Faculty of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, various Deans and Heads of Institutions of Lucknow, Head of departments, interns, postgraduates and undergraduates.
National Oral Pathologists Day is celebrated throughout the country in memory of the birth anniversary of Dr H.M. Dholakia who was the first Oral Pathologist in India and started the first M.D.S Course in Oral Pathology in India.
On 26th February 2024, Wax carving and Poster Making competitions were conducted in which students actively participated On27th February 2024, enthusiastic participation was seen in Microphotography and Histo-Rangoli competitions.
A Cancer awareness rally with the “INDIA CAN” Cancer Torch along with the American NGO –MANDALA – USA was carried out on the Ayodhya road which commenced from the BBDCODS and proceeded towards the other institutes and finally ended at the BBD student Mall area.
More than 300 participants marched announcing Anti-Cancer and Oral Cancer prevention slogans.
This was followed by a CDE program on “Oral Pre-Cancer and Cancer “which was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Dinesh K.Daftary and Guests of honour, Dr.Shaleen Chandra (Dean, Dental Faculty Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, U.P) and Dr. Puneet Ahuja, Principal, BBDCODS, by lighting the ceremonial lamp. This was followed by an address by Dr. Jiji George, Head of the Department, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, BBDCODS. Dr. George spoke on the significance of observing the National Oral Pathologist day with a short introduction about Dr. Dholakia, founding father of Oral Pathology in India.
Dr. Puneet Ahuja welcomed the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour with floral bouquet followed by an address by Dr Shaleen Chandra, Dean,Dental Faculty, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, U.P.
Chief Guest Dr.Daftary spoke on Oral Cancer and Pre-cancer and his vast experience of over 40 years at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai with these lesions as an Oral Pathologist.
This was followed felicitation with a traditional shawl presentation of the Chief guest Dr.Daftary, by Dr. Puneet Ahuja and faculty members of Dept of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Jiji George, Head of the Department, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and the Scientific Program ended with the National Anthem.
This was followed by LUNCH for the Guests / Invitees and HODs.
